LIFE BUILDERS By Becky Hill Photograph by Tom Mills |

I met her during my freshman year of college, and sometimes we talked about God as we walked back to our dorms. "Sure, I'm a Christian," she said. "And I go to church sometimes." Nikki had missed the point of Christianity; it wasn't real to her. And at that point in my walk with God, I couldn't sum up what had taken me years to understand. I invited her to our weekly meeting of Campus Crusade for Christ, but she always had class that night. I didn't know what more to say. I wish I could have said, "Hey, Nikki, do you think we could get together after class and start going through this book about Christianity? We can just meet once a week in the Union, have cappuccino, and go through the book." But at that time, I didn't have any sort of plan, and I would never have thought to ask about one. Life Builders, a ministry of Campus Crusade, has developed a concept that would have been perfect, for Nikki and for me. The first page of the Life Builders training material reads, "Without a solid foundation, any construction project is in trouble from the outset. The one-to-one discipleship process you are beginning is intended to help you lay a solid foundation for your life." It's a simple, biblical process that is changing many people's lives. The next four articles are about the lives of people who are teaching this life-changing material. Jerry, a bank executive in Cincinnati; Tara, a college student in Milwaukee; Jim, an 82-year-old in North Carolina; and Ron, the director of Life Builders in Dallas, are all teaching others how to "get it." The truth is, we all know someone like Nikki. Now, you also know your options. |
